For Commercial Building & HVAC projects under 5,000 sq. ft. for new construction or projects under 10,000 sq. ft. for additions and alterations, please contact the City of Appleton at 920-832-6411, as they may require you to submit directly to them for review and permit issuance.
For projects exceeding these thresholds, please submit through our portal and we will handle the review process.

*Plumbing, Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler* – Contact the City of Appleton regarding all Fire Alarm, Fire Sprinkler and Plumbing projects as the City is fully delegated for all of these trades and will be taking care of you at the local level for all of those trades!
*PETITION FOR VARIANCE INFORMATION* – The City of Appleton has been granted authority to review and approve variance requests at the local level for buildings of unlimited size for Building, HVAC, Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression Scopes of work by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). Plumbing variance requests at this time must still be reviewed by DSPS. Petition for Variance requests we are requesting to be submitted as a separate stand alone submission for the project for compliance purposes – feel free to upload your primary project as normal. We strongly encourage you prior to making submission to reach out to our team so we can discuss your project and walk through everything with you. **Special Note Regarding Fire Prevention** – The City of Beaver Dam does adopt and enforce its municipal code of ordinances Chapter 30 which includes numerous provisions which are grandfathered under Wisconsin Act 270. The latest version of NFPA 101 is active and enforced for fire prevention.

Before Submitting to E‑Plan Exam for the City of Waukesha:
Plan Commission and Planning & Zoning Approvals:
- Ensure Plan Commission approval has been obtained (preliminary, final, or minor site plan, as applicable).
- Confirm that all Planning & Zoning items have been fully addressed.
- Coordinate as needed with Planning, Engineering, the Fire Department, and the Water Utility—unresolved issues with any of these departments may delay permit issuance.

Engineering Division Concurrence Letter:
- Work with the Engineering Division to ensure all site-related conditions are satisfied, including:
- Final site plan approval
- Recorded Certified Survey Map (CSM), if applicable
- Financial guarantees
- Payment of all applicable impact fees
- A Concurrence Letter from Engineering is required prior to permit issuance.

Note: You may still submit to E-Plan Exam prior to obtaining to the Concurrence Letter, however submitting plans to E‑Plan Exam before obtaining the Concurrence Letter may result in revisions to previously approved plans or the need for a new plan submittal. If approved plans by either the State or E-Plan Exam are dated dissimilarly to the final set approved by the City of Waukesha as referenced in the Engineering Concurrence Letter, you may be requested to submit revisions for approval.

*PETITION FOR VARIANCE INFORMATION* – The City of Waukesha has been granted authority to review and approve variance requests at the local level for buildings of unlimited size for Building, HVAC, Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression Scopes of work by the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS). Plumbing variance requests at this time must still be reviewed by DSPS. Petition for Variance requests we are requesting to be submitted as a separate submission for the project for compliance purposes, however you can upload both a project and a petition simultaneously. We encourage you prior to making submission to reach out to our team so we can discuss your project and walk through everything with you.
